Early lifeMerrygold grew up in Peterborough, where he attended the Jack Hunt School. Whilst still at secondary school in 2004 he represented England at football in the European Youth Games. Soon afterwards he discovered he had a nerve disorder in his left foot and was forced to abandon a career in football. Music careerIn 2002, when Merrygold was 14, his mother applied for him to enter Stars In Their Eyes Kids where he appeared as Michael Jackson, singing "Rockin' Robin". Merrygold performed in school productions and after leaving school in 2004 was cast in a new ITV programme, Fun Song Factory. Merrygold met fellow boyband member, Marvin Humes, whilst auditioning for a TV advert. Before entering The X Factor with boyband JLS, Merrygold auditioned for a part in Britannia High, but only made it to the final 16. From 17 December to 28 January 2006, he played Peter Pan at the New Theatre, Cardiff, and was set to play the part again in the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre Pantomime from December 2008 to January 2009, but had to pull out due to JLS's success in X Factor.

Aston Merrygold (born February 13, 1988) is an English singer and actor. He is currently lead vocalist of the boyband JLS, runners-up of the The X Factor (Series 5) in the United Kingdom.
